Here we will list some security and privacy-focused extensions.
In general, useful extensions can be divided into 5 categories:
  • Ad blocking
  • Information hiding and spoofing (IP, geolocation, user agent)
  • Browser data cleaning
  • Privacy settings
  • Protection against malware and mining scripts
Several browsers are based on the Chromium engine, making their extensions compatible with Brave, Opera, and Vivaldi.

Ad Blockers

The most important extension that you should install for yourself, as well as for all acquaintances and relatives, is an ad blocker. This is an absolute must-have for everyone. Here are the most popular ones:

AdBlock Plus (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera, Safari, Android, iOS)
AdBlock (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge)
uBlock Origin (Chrome, Firefox)
Ghostery (Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Edge)

It's difficult to recommend a specific ad blocker as they all perform well.
Some prefer the fastest Ghostery, while others are accustomed to the old AdBlock Plus.

Benchmark results showing the time taken to process a page with different ad blockers.
Despite the overhead, they ultimately accelerate page loading.

Information Hiding

HideMyBack

Hides specific information: referrer, user agent, IP address, and geolocation.
Protects against online trackers and even allows changing your IP address in the server response.

User Agent Switcher
A simple and powerful extension for switching between different user agent strings.

WebRTC Protect

WebRTC is an open framework for real-time communication, commonly used for video calls and conferences through browsers.
The WebRTC Protect extension protects the user from IP address leakage via WebRTC. The extension is small and easy to use.

Unseen - Chat Privacy

Protects against revealing the "Seen" status in chats. Works with web messengers like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Web Telegram, and others, as well as on websites like facebook. It blocks the "Seen" status, last activity indicator, and "User is typing..." indicator.

Location Guard

Hides or spoofs your geographic location.

Browser Data Cleaning

Click&Clean (Chrome, Firefox, Edge)

A popular extension for clearing browser temporary data. While the browser itself has corresponding settings, this extension provides many more customizable options and advanced cleaning settings.

Privacy Settings

Privacy Settings
A minimalist but highly functional extension for managing privacy settings. It has a simple interface.

Privacy Manager

A more advanced privacy settings manager in Chrome. It offers more settings and options for managing security settings and cookies. It also allows you to delete browsing data, with a wide range of options available.

Privacy Manager can perform network monitoring, modify cookies, and manage IP addresses through WebRTC.

Privacy Badger (Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Android)

The Privacy Badger extension from the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) automatically detects and blocks trackers and malicious scripts based on their behavior. It has a list of permissions for individual elements such as video players and interactive widgets.

EditThisCookie

An advanced open-source cookie manager. It allows editing, adding, managing, creating, and searching cookies.
It also enables changing the expiration date of cookies and importing/exporting them.

Protection and Security
Miner Blocker

An extension against crypto miners that not only stops mining scripts but also serves as an indicator of which sites have such malware.
Website owners consider this a legitimate micro-payment model where readers pay with their resources for access to information.

Fox Web Security

Parental control: blocks adult content sites. Although it can be bypassed, like any other block.

HTTPS Everywhere (Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Firefox for Android), included by default in Brave, Tor, and Onion (iOS)

A collaborative effort between the Tor Project and the Electronic Frontier Foundation. Many sites have partial or incorrect HTTPS support. For example, the unsecured HTTP version is loaded by default or HTTPS pages have some links leading to it. The HTTPS Everywhere extension addresses some of these issues by modifying requests on the fly.

_
Each extension contributes to page parsing and memory consumption, so it is advisable to install the necessary minimum and no more. For example, "antivirus" extensions are largely useless and only waste CPU and memory resources, and sometimes even inject unnecessary ads into the browser. If you use other useful extensions, feel free to add them in the comments.
